Last September 28 we welcomed a star-studded cast of speakers and a stunning audience to the Institute of Education, Bedford Way. Moderated by Tolani Shoneye – journalists and host of The Receipts podcast -the Deep Dive delved into the theme of Body: A Disruption – discussing how we look at ourselves and position ourselves in a modern society.
Naomi Shimada – model and writer, Paula Akpan – author and director of Black Girl Festival and journalists and co-authors of Not Plant Based Laura Dennison and Eve Simmons spoke on body confidence in media, micro-aggression’s in society and life through and after restrictive dieting.
In the break the audience were encouraged to contribute to write one thing the struggled with and one thing they were proud of for others to bring home and share their experiences. After Tolani led a panel with Laura, Eve & Naomi as well as Susie Orbach – psychoanalyst and founder of Endangered Bodies and Amena Khan – influencer and founder of Pearl Daisy.
